1 in 10 Portuguese families with difficulties

One out of ten Portuguese children live in families with difficulties. Statistics institute INE reports that 10.7% of children under the age of 16 belong to households in material and social privation.

This is lower than the level for the global general population (13.5%). It means that around one in six children never have the possibility of having even one week’s holiday per year away from home, 9.7% cannot take part in any out of school activities, 6.6% cannot take part in school trips or excursions (unless they are free) and 4.3% have to make do with second hand clothes.
