Miguel Acabou is promoted to Captain
Seven members of the Clark Police Department were promoted to new positions and took an oath before loved ones and the local governing body during a town council meeting held Nov. 21.
Miguel Acabou was promoted to captain; Michael Hernandez, Theodore McKeown, Michael Ciaccio, and Christopher Tuccio were promoted to sergeant; Paul Sosnowski and Michael DeAngelo were promoted to detective.
Miguel Acabou graduated from Newark East Side High School in 2000 and began his law enforcement career with the Newark Police Department in April 2006, serving with the Patrol Bureau and Street Crimes and Narcotics units through 2011. During his tenure with the Newark PD, Acabou was the recipient of the Physical Fitness Training Award, a Medal of Merit ‘B’ Award, two Medal of Merit ‘C’ Awards, five FOP Officer of the Month Awards, and over 20 command citations.
Acabou transferred to Clark in January 2012 and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. He was promoted to sergeant in January 2017 and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau and as the field training supervisor. In September 2020, Acabou was promoted to lieutenant and assigned as the watch commander of a platoon and the commander of the Internal Affairs Bureau. As a member of the Clark PD, he has been the recipient of two Life Saving Awards and three Platoon Awards. He is also Alcotest Breathalyzer Certified and a certified Field Training Supervisor as well as a 911 Dispatcher, Internal Affairs Investigator, and the Firearms Range Master.
Acabou is currently in command of the Patrol Bureau.
