Rosa Rebimbas is sworn in as Probate Judge
Former state deputy, Rosa Rebimbas, from Connecticut, was sworn in as Probate Judge on December 28, to which she was elected by popular vote.
She won the election for this position this past November 8th during the U.S mid term elections.
The ceremony took place at the Waterbury Country Club, presided over by Chief Justice Richard A. Robinson of the Supreme Court of the State of Connecticut.
Attending the ceremony were Luisa Pais Lowe, Consul-General of Portugal in New York, Abílio Gouveia, Honorary Consul; Eric Berthel; state senator; and state deputy Lezlye Zupkus.
The new judge, daugther of immigrants from Murtosa and Estarreja and a lawyer by profession, was accompanied by her father Francisco Rebimbas; her husband Ever Linares; her two daughters and other relatives – besides members from the Order of Luso-American lawyers from Connecticut.
Consul-General Luísa Pais Lowe emphasized the notable career service of Rosa Rebimbas, who always honored her Portuguese heritage and was always a great pride fir the Portuguese community of the state of Connecticut and the United States of America.
The Portuguese diplomat also added: “We know that Justice will be in very good hands and that she will carry out her new functions with wisdom, impartiality and kindness. May the sun of Portugal always inspire and illuminate you.”
Chief justice Robinson added that he has known Rosa for a long time and knows that she will become a fantastic judge.
What now represents a loss for the legislative arm will be a gain for the judiciary. We need people like her because judges are important to maintaining the democratic process and she understands that. I am ready to work alongside you.”
Rosa Rebimbas started her remarks by thanking the Chief Justice for this presence and his remarks, as well as her parents who provided her with the proper moral fortitute and spiritual conviction throughout her life and career.
She stated that she hopes to be able to set an example for all generations who follow.
