Bruno Ferreira leads Berkeley College soccer team to another accomplishment
The Berkeley College Men’s Soccer Team captured its first Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title on Sunday, October 30, 2022, defeating Five Towns College by a score of 3-1. The match took place at Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville, NY.
With the victory, the Knights earn an automatic bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II National Men’s Soccer Tournament, which begins on Friday, November 11, 2022, in Virginia Beach, VA.
“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes who have shown so much heart and dedication this season,” said Bruno Ferreira, Head Coach, Berkeley College Men’s Soccer Team. “We met or exceeded all of our team goals this season – from smashing our program’s goal-scoring record with 84 goals scored in the regular season, to breaking our single-season win total with 15 wins. Our team has put together a tremendous season, we look forward to our next challenge.”
Erson Gerbeshi of Haledon, NJ, was named HVIAC Player of the Year. Alex Davidson of Spanish Town, Jamaica, was named HVIAC Rookie of the Year, and also received Most Valuable Player accolades during the HVIAC Tournament.
Bruno Ferreira was named Head Coach of the New Jersey men’s soccer team in 2008, and has been in that aforementioned role for nine seasons.
In 2016, he led the Knights to their first-ever appearance in the USCAA National Men’s Soccer Tournament. Three years later, in 2019, Ferreira led Berkeley College New Jersey to one of its strongest season’s ever, as the Knights qualified for the USCAA Division II National Men’s Soccer Tournament with a No. 3 seed (the highest seed the team has ever earned). At the tournament, Berkeley defeated National runner-up Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte by a score of 3-2 in overtime.
Since 2014, Ferreira has coached the Knights to four double-digit winning seasons. Berkeley won 11 matches in 2014, 10 apiece in 2016 and 2018, and 11 again in 2019.
