CONNECTICUT – Rep. Rebimbas to Speak at event commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment
State Representatives Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70), ranking member of the legislature’s Judiciary Committee and co-chair of the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus, will join Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, House Republican Leader Themis Klarides, and State Representative Robyn Porter for an event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote in America.
“I am honored to be included in this conversation as we celebrate this important milestone for our country”, said Rep. Rebimbas. It took decades of consistent advocacy and several attempts with Congress until the amendment ultimately passed through both chambers in the spring of 1919. The following year, Tennessee became the 36th and final state necessary to secure ratification.
Professor Marchant-Shapiro of Southern Connecticut State University’s (SCSU’s) political science department will moderate the discussion, which will focus on the panelists’ entrance into politics, the impact of women having the right to vote, women in politics who have served as mentors to the Lt. Governor and legislators, as well as any words of wisdom they have for young women. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
The event will be broadcast on Thursday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. on SCSU’s Facebook page. The event will also be available on YoutTube at a later date
