In CT, Rep. Rebimbas appointed Deputy House Republican leader

State Representative Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70) has been named a Deputy House Republican Leader by incoming House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora. She will also serve as the Chair of the Screening Committee. In addition to Rep. Rebimbas, State Representatives Tom O’Dea, Jason Perillo, Lezlye Zupkus, and Laura Devlin have been selected to serve as deputy leaders.

“Representative Rebimbas has distinguished herself as an unflinching leader and respected lawmaker within the General Assembly, deftly balancing her outstanding work as Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee with an unwavering commitment to her constituents,” said House Republican Leader-Elect Vincent Candelora. “She’s a tremendous asset to our caucus, and I look forward to working alongside Rosa for the next two years.”

“I am honored to be selected for this important role within our caucus and I thank the House Republican Leader-Elect for his trust and confidence. We are a strong caucus representing 54 diverse districts, and we are prepared to fight for our constituents and the entire state of Connecticut in the upcoming session,” said Rep. Rebimbas. “Connecticut residents and businesses are facing one of the worst public health crises of our lifetimes and our state economy has paid the price. Thousands are out of work and over 600 businesses in the service industry alone have closed. They need our help and they need it now. I hope our colleagues across the aisle will understand that reducing the tax burden, prioritizing state spending, and supporting our business and nonprofit communities is the key to a full economic recovery.”

On December 4, Rep. Rebimbas joined Rep. Candelora and other House Republican members outside the Capitol for a press conference to discuss their proposals to assist small businesses and nonprofits during the pandemic. House Republicans believe these measures will provide some much needed tax relief to businesses and nonprofits that are experiencing financial hardships as a direct result of the pandemic.

Rep. Rebimbas currently serves as the Ranking Member of the joint legislative Judiciary Committee. She will remain on the Judiciary Committee as a member, and will also serve on the Environment and Transportation Committees. In addition, she will continue her roles as a co-chair of the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus as well as the Waterbury Line Caucus, where she has advocated for more funding for improvements to a public transportation system that is central to the regional economy in Naugatuck Valley.

The 2021 session is scheduled to convene on January 6, 2021 and adjourn on June 9, 2021.
