Ironbound Ambulance Squad celebrates one year anniversary of partnership with University Hospital
On Sunday, on May 7, 2023 the Ironbound community joined to celebrate the one year anniversary partnership between University Hospital and the Ironbound Ambulance Squad.
New York Avenue was lined with face painters, giveaways and residents.
Those in attendance included Board Members of Ironbound Ambulance Squad, President Manny Oliveira, Board Secretary Angela Anemoyanis and Captain Jose Rios, University Hospital Cultural Liaison, Maria De Almeida, along with Jason Brady, Director of EMS, University Hospital, Ed Jimenez President and CEO of University Hospital, Joseph Burlew, Associate Director of EMS, University Hospital and Councilman Michael Silva were also attended.
In January 2020, due to economic hardship the Ironbound Ambulance Squad was forced out of service. The organization along with its longstanding EMT educational program would seize response operations. Over the past year, this partnership has helped to provide a source of income to stimulate IAS’s financial recovery. “I’m truly grateful to have University Hospital utilizing our space to reduce emergency response times for our residents and businesses. Although my ultimate goal would be to see our own red and white ambulances back on the streets,” stated IAS President Manny Oliveira.
In a collaborative effort to support the health and well-being of the Ironbound Community, Cultural Liaison Maria De Almeida of University Hospital provides monthly health screenings at the Ironbound Ambulance Squad at 399 New York Avenue. To schedule an appointment for health services call Maria at (973) 943-8202.
The Ambulance Squad is located at 399 New York Avenue, Newark, NJ and is accessible to the entire community (www.ironboundamulance.org).
