LOWELL, MA | Historian Rui Tavares is visiting professor at UMass


Historian Rui Tavares is a Gulbenkian/Saab Visiting Professor in Portuguese Studies and will be teaching at UMass Lowell in the Spring Semester 2020. Tavares will teach History of the Portuguese World: History of Portugal, Tues. and Thurs., 3:30-4:45 pm.

This course offers a general overview of Portugal’s history, from its consolidation as a nation-state in the Middle Ages and exploration and imperial expansion in the early modern period, to the authoritarian regime of Salazar, the transition to democracy, decolonization, and full membership in the European Union.
