Luso Americano presented with commemorative book
The Luso Americano, founded in 1928 and located in the Ironbound section of Newark, recently received a visit from East Ward Councilman Michael Silva, who took the opportunity to present a commemorative book memorializing the ceremony naming the Union and Hamilton Street corner, “Luso-Americano Way”.
The official street dedication ceremony took place in October, 2024 when numerous figures from the Portuguese community espoused the newspaper’s pivotal role in the history of the Ironbound and Newark over the years.
Founded by Vasco Jardim, the Luso Americano newspaper has been directed since 1979 by publisher António Matinho, and is the oldest Portuguese language media in the United States.
