Portuguese painter among 2015 Oscar Winners
Gonçalo Jordão was one of many recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ceremony in Hollywood on Sunday, February 22, but the only one known of Portuguese ethnicity.
From Alto Minho, where he is working on restoring murals in a house where the Portuguese consulate of Bordeaux, Aristides de Sousa Mendes, once resided, Jordão commented on his Oscar wins for his work in The Grand Hotel Budapest to Portuguese website PUBLICO, stating, “Foi muito bom. Foi uma noite incrivel”, remarking on how satisfying it was to see his team’s work recognized.
Jordão is a 41-year-old painter, born in Lisbon in 1973. He holds a degree in Painting from the Instituto de Artes e Ofícios da Fundação Ricardo Espírito Santo as well as Escola Superior de Artes Decorativas in Lisbon. Jordão resides in Mourão, Alentejo and specializes in decorative painting.
