President Zelensky to address Portuguese parliament by videoconference on April 21

The Portuguese parliament will hold a formal sitting to welcome the president of Ukraine, who will address the chamber by videoconference on April 21, and which will be attended by the president of Portugal and the prime minister.

The information was transmitted at the end of the conference by the parliamentary leaders’ spokesperson. According to Maria da Luz Rosinha, only the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the speaker of this parliament, Augusto Santos Silva, will speak at that session. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (Portugal’s president) and António Costa (the Prime Minester) will attend the solemn session and in which there will be guests, whose list is being organised by the State protocol.

According to the spokeswoman for the leaders’ conference, the galleries will not be open to the public on that day, nor will there be speeches by the various parliamentary groups and members of the Parliament.On April 7, the speaker of parliament, Augusto Santos Silva, informed that the head of state of Ukraine had agreed to speak to the Portuguese parliament on a date yet to be agreed upon.

“This morning (Thursday) I received the ambassador of Ukraine in Lisbon, Ihna Ohnivets, who conveyed to me the availability of President Volodymyr Zelensky to participate in a session of the parliament.The date will now be set,” Silva wrote on his Twitter account.

Last week, at the last meeting of the leaders conference, the PAN proposal for a parliamentary session by videoconference with the president of Ukraine was approved by a majority, with the opposition of the Communist Party, the PCP.
