“Sol-Mar” restaurant celebrates Portugal Day festival including Némanus

Sol Mar in Newark, NJ celebrated Portugal Day for the 27th time.

The Portuguese sea food restaurant hosted a 3 day festival where the community was able to embrace its culture.

The celebrations started last Friday, June 9, and lasted until Sunday.

The parking lot was always completely full with hundreds of people.

Many artists came from Portugal to perform in this feast. ‘Ana Ma-lhoa’, ‘Manel do Barril’, and the duo ‘Némanus’, among others.

During these three days, people danced, had drinks, and ate as many sardines and ‘febras’ as they could handle.

The NY Red Bulls came to share Portuguese culture as well as its love for soccer.

The New York Red Bulls freestyle crew came to perform some amazing tricks and to be among the kids with challenges that were very entertaining.

To Luso-Americano newspaper, Sol Mar’s owner, António Nobre said that he takes much pride in this festival, and seeing it going beyond the Portuguese community. “Everyone is welcome”, he said.

“It has been 27 years since we started doing this event. I never had any problems. People always behave with respect, which reflects the respect they have for me, which I value very much”, he added.
