State Senator Marc Pacheco delivers remarks as a Keynote Speaker at UN Ocean Conference in Portugal
Dean of the Massachusetts Senate Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton) delivered his remarks on the need for urgent climate action as a Keynote Speaker at the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference Special Event in Matosinhos, Portugal this past Saturday, June 25, 2022.
Co-hosted by the countries of Portugal and Kenya, the 2022 UN Ocean Conference Special Event, “Localizing Action for the Ocean: Local and Regional Governments Forum”, featured speeches and interactive dialogue by leading voices throughout the world on ocean sustainability, adaptation, and decarbonization in coastal cities and regions.
“I was extremely honored and humbled to have been given the opportunity to participate as a Keynote Speaker at the 2022 UN Ocean Conference Special Event in Matosinhos,” said Senator Pacheco. “Despite several years of inconsistent leadership on ocean and climate at the national level, many local, state, and regional governments have instead stepped up and seized the opportunity for bold action on adaptation and mitigation. I was very pleased to speak on the value of subnational climate leadership at the UN Ocean Conference Special Event and hear from leaders from around the world about the latest developments on ocean and climate sustainability, as well as discuss opportunities for meaningful collaboration on these urgent issues.”
While delivering his keynote speech, Senator Pacheco also announced plans to establish a new initiative designed to bridge the gap between climate science and policy at the local, state, and regional level, the Transatlantic Alliance for Climate Action.
