Super Bowl XLIX to “Roar” with Portuguese-American Singer

On the first of February, the Patriots and the Seahawks will compete in the 2015 NFL Super Bowl XLIX. The football teams hailing from New England and Seattle will go head-to-head for the national championship at the University of Phoenix stadium in sunny Glendale, Arizona. The Seattle Seahawks are the defending 2014 Super Bowl champions.

Besides last-minute touchdowns and bloated commercials, Hollywood’s musical elite will be entertaining fans before and during the game. Last week, the NFL announced that John Legend and Idina Menzel will perform before the kick-off in the pre-game show. Legend will perform “America the Beautiful” while Menzel is scheduled to sing the National Anthem. Legend is a Grammy Award-winning musician whose 2013 album Love in the Future features recent hit “All of Me”. Menzel, most popular for singing Disney’s Frozen theme “Let it Go”, is a Tony Award-winning singer and actress known for her roles in “Rent” and “Wicked”.

The brightest star of the Super Bowl, however, is set to be Katy Perry, who is playing the famous half-time show. Renowned for such hits as “I Kissed a Girl”, “Teenage Dream”, and “Roar”, Perry is a singer of Portuguese descent, specifically Azorean, with roots in Horta, Faial. Perry rivals Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus for teen pop music queen, known internationally for her extravagant fashions, peculiar stage props, and catchy tunes. Perry has confirmed that Lenny Kravitz will be her special guest at this year’s Super Bowl half-time show.
