The “Portuguese Language Day” is May 5 at NYC

The “Portuguese Language Day” will be celebrated May 5th (Thursday) in New York, in a joint initiative between Portugal and Brazil to which all Portuguese-speaking African countries are invited.

The event will take place at the premises of the Consulate General of Brazil in Manhattan, Prof. José Carlos Adão, assistant coordinator for teaching Portuguese in the United States of America, told LUSO-AMERICANO newspaper.

Also according to the same source, “Portuguese is not only one of the most widespread languages in the world, with more than 265 million speakers spread across all continents, but it is also the most spoken language in the southern hemisphere. Portuguese continues to be, today, one of the main languages of international communication, and a language with a strong geographical extension, destined to increase.”

According to José Carlos Adão, “several community heritage schools and American educational institutions will be invited”, and there will even be a performance by students from “Antero de Figueiredo”, added to the Portuguese-American Center of Suffolk, under the supervision of the teacher Maria Ribeiro.

“Senza”

The event will have a capacity of up to 200 people.

Representing Portugal will be the Portuguese duo “Senza”, which is strongly committed to the sounds of Lusophony as a bet to make quality Portuguese music.
