Student Art Exhibition at FDU Campus
FLORHAM PARK, NJ: Another student exhibition majoring in Studio Arts, namely painting, drawing and ceramics, took place last Wednesday at FDU Campus in Florham Park.
About 100 pieces were exhibited with more than 30 students involved.
Ricky Durães a Portuguese American from Elizabeth, NJ and currently a senior at Fairleigh Dickinson University, was one of the artists that showcased 7 pieces. Durães is an artist of multiple mediums such as ceramics and painting, explained his connection with art.
“Journey & Life. That is what most of my art is based off. Each piece represents a connection between me and the world. When it comes to my approach, I try to balance simplicity and complexity. Some pieces have a lot going for them and some are simple. That is by design. For example, the piece known as “Solo” (the large painting) depicts me walking down campus into the unknown. That unknown could be the future. The details such as me walking down with a trench coat (basically representing my style) and the wind blowing in vibrant colors is a representation of “my own world”, my story and what life has in store for me next. It’s a complex painting with a simple meaning. That meaning is to keep moving forward. “Light Night” is a similar style to “Solo” in which it’s a monochromatic painting of FDU’s Florham campus during the winter season, but it’s just the campus. “Light Night” takes more of a simple approach since there’s only one color that I’m realistically using. I chose to paint the campus for multiple reasons. Those reasons are a remembrance of what it felt like walking across campus and me spending my time at FDU from the morning till night. Since I’m graduating, “Light Night” is a representation of what I’m going to miss”.
This exhibition was thus an opportunity to showcase the talent of several young artists, who praised the importance of this type of event and highlighted the intrinsic value that an opportunity of this nature can have for their careers.
