In Newark, Elizabeth, Kearny and Harrison, the Portuguese presence is quite pronounced, and there were many special moments that will surely make 2019 an unforgettable year.
In Newark, the dream of reopening the neighborhood stadium has come true after more than three decades of struggle. The persistent role of Councilman Amador deserved praise and the grand reopening of the Ironbound stadium became one of the greatest moments of 2019.
The opening of another Seabra supermarket in the Ferry Plaza, one of the most emblematic plazas of the neighborhood, was also an important milestone for the community.
Additionally, the issue of water contamination in the city also ran a lot of ink, placing Newark in the head- lines of national news for not so pleasant reasons.
In Elizabeth, the PISC remodeled the club bar, and the board of Directors did a great job remodeling one of the most important gathering spaces in the community.
Kudos also to Mayor of Kearny, Alberto Santos, who led the fight against the Keegan landfill and received a great Christmas present with the landfill closure.
