Elizabeth hosts largest Portugal Day Parade in nearly 50 years

The Portugal Day Parade in Elizabeth, New Jersey, reached a historic milestone this year, with around 85 groups participating — the highest number since the event began nearly five decades ago.

Marching down Elizabeth Avenue on Sunday were organizations from across New Jersey and even from Connecticut. The event featured folk groups, schools, bands, businesses, and community associations, celebrating the rich culture of the Portuguese-American community.

Dignitaries in attendance included Congressman Robert Menendez, Mayor Chris Bollwage, Consul General Luís Sequeira, and several local officials, alongside Michelle Afonso, President of the Portugal Day Committee.
