Mask mandate – Students under 5 continue as COVID cases rise in NYC

Protests over masking the city’s youngest students at schools were planned at NY City Hall last Monday. Parents are expected to voice their frustrations that students under five are still required to wear masks in class.

Monday, April 4th, was supposed to be the day children under the age of five might be able to take off their masks at school, but Mayor Eric Adams says he is pushing that plan back by at least a week. This comes as COVID-19 cases in the city are ticking back up.

Health officials say that trend may continue because New Yorkers can expect cases to increase over the coming weeks due to the highly transmissible Omicron subvariant called BA-2.
