The Black Mamba and Equinocio among winners of the IPMAS 2023 in Providence

The Black Mamba, Equinocio, Marcelo and Hélder Bruno were some of the musicians distinguished at the Interna-tional Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA), which took place in the north-eastern city of Provi-dence, Rhode Island.

In the 11th edition of the IPMA, on Saturday night, Portugal won nine of the 12 categories in competition, in a gala presented by the actress Daniela Ruah and television host Ricardo Farias, which featured performances by artists such as José Cid, Marisa Liz , Diogo Piçarra, Pedro Abrunhosa, Plutónio, Toy, among others.

At the event, which took place at the Providence Performing Arts Center, in the US state of Rhode Island, The Black Mamba (Por-tugal) won the category of “Best Pop Performance”; Equinocio (Portugal) “Best Traditional Perfor-mance” and Hélder Bruno (Portugal) “Best World Music Performance”.

“O Sol Brilha”, by Richfellaz (Portugal) was distinguished as “Song of the Year”; VAXXO (Canada) won “Best Rock Performance”, TOM GVNG (France) won “Best Rap/Hip-Hop Per-formance” and Jâca (Uni-ted States of America) took home the trophy for “Best Instrumental”.

The “Musical Video of the Year” was collected by Diogo Pinto and Ricardo Bernardino (Portugal) with “Gato Preto”. Tomás (Portugal) won the “Popular Music” category and Marcelo (Portugal) won the “Best Fado Performance”.

Rafaella (Portugal) won in the “New talent” category, which earned her a cash prize of US$2,000 (about 1,850 euros), and Rita Rocha (Portugal) won the “Public Choice”. 

In total, artists from nine countries were nominated for this year’s edition of the IPMA, an event that annually distinguishes artists of Portuguese descent.
